  • Image under a microscope of dentin tubules

Starts repairing from the first brush*

The top left SEM image shows a prepared dentin slab with open tubules – the block has been polished and acid etched to remove the smear layer.6

The right-hand image shows dentin after one application of NOVAMIN for two minutes and subjected to an acid challenge. The majority of tubules are completely closed, and the remainder are at least partially closed.6

  • Graphs show reduction in Schiff sensitivity score and tactile threshold after 8 weeks of sensitive teeth treatment with SENSODYNE Clinical Repair Toothpaste

Significant sensitivity relief after 3 days that continues to improve with daily use7

This data is from an 8-week, single center, randomized, controlled, examiner-blind, 2-treatment arm, parallel design, stratified* clinical study (N=215) with self-reported and clinical examiner-confirmed dentin hypersensitivity (DH). Subjects brushed for 8 weeks twice daily with a 5% calcium sodium phosphosilicate (CSPS) toothpaste (SENSODYNE Clinical Repair with NOVAMIN), or a reference toothpaste.7

DH was assessed at intervals over the 8-week period in response to evaporative (air) stimulus (Schiff sensitivity score) and a tactile stimulus (Yeaple probe).7

All sensitivity measures demonstrated clinically significant ongoing reductions compared with baseline and the reference toothpaste on days 3, 7, 14, 28, and 56.7

  • Graph to show reduction in Schiff sensitivity score after 24 weeks of sensitive teeth treatment with SENSODYNE Clinical Repair Toothpaste

Effective protection against the pain of sensitive teeth, and enduring resilience*

This data is from a 24-week, non-comparative clinical study in healthy adults (n=75) with clinically confirmed dentin hypersensitivity (DH). Subjects brushed for 24 weeks with a non-aqueous toothpaste with 5% NOVAMIN and 1426ppm fluoride.8

DH was assessed at intervals over the 24-week period in response to evaporative (air) stimulus (Schiff sensitivity score) and a tactile stimulus.8

All sensitivity measures demonstrated clinically significant ongoing reductions compared with baseline over the 24-week period.8

This long-term data demonstrates ongoing efficacy over 6 months with twice-daily brushing, associated with improved oral health-related quality of life.8,9

  • Graph to show improvement in oral health-related quality of life following treatment for dentin hypersensitivity

Long-term data demonstrates improved oral health-related quality of life over 6 months with twice daily brushing1,8

This data is from a 24-week, non-comparative clinical study in healthy adults (n=75) with clinically confirmed dentin hypersensitivity (DH). Subjects brushed for 24 weeks with a non-aqueous toothpaste with 5% NOVAMIN and 1426ppm fluoride.1

The dentin hypersensitivity experience questionnaire (DHEQ) was used to assess changes in subject-perceived DH before and during treatment in addition to traditional DH pain scores. These measures are indicative of oral health-related quality of life (OHrQoL).1

DHEQ measures demonstrated ongoing improvements in OHRQoL across the extended study period.1

  • Image of dentin tubules after treatment with toothpaste

Our NOVAMIN technology was significantly better than other occluding technologies testedin vitro10

This in vitro study used human and bovine dentin discs which were etched with 1% citric acid to remove the smear layer and then brushed with the tested toothpaste slurry for 30 sec and stored in artificial saliva for 12 hrs.10

Scanning Electron Micrograph images were taken of the treated dentin samples.10 For details of the study and occlusion results click here.

  • A graph to demonstrate the hardness of occlusive layers formed by SENSODYNE Clinical Repair Toothpaste compared to dentin and Colgate Sensitive Pro Relief.

Provides a robust layer for sensitive teeth

In vitro studies have shown the hydroxyapatite-like layer formed with NOVAMIN is harder than dentin and highlight that the mechanical properties of the layers formed by desensitizing agents are different.14

The graph is from a recent study showing the layer hardness on human dentin blocks following 4 days of twice-daily brushing for 30 seconds. Following each brush, all samples except the AS control were immersed in a 1:3 paste: AS slurry for 30 seconds. Layer hardness was measured by nanoindentation using a unique liquid cell set up to characterize the layers on a nanoscale level to avoid the substrate effect and to keep the dental tissue hydrated to provide a better mimic of in vivo conditions. A positive change from baseline is indicative of the surface becoming harder through the experiment.14

After four days of treatment SENSODYNE Clinical Repair with NOVAMIN produced a significantly harder layer (p<0.05) compared to other occluding technologies. This layer was also 76% harder than the dentin control, which was statistically significant (p<0.05).14

For more information on the study findings click here.

SENSODYNE Clinical Repair with NOVAMIN forms an occlusive layer, which is harder than natural dentin, over vulnerable areas of sensitive teeth for strong repair.

  • Images of dentin treated with SENSODYNE Clinical Repair Toothpaste and Colgate Sensitivity Relief before and after acid challenge to show resistance

    Return resilience to sensitive teeth

In a recent in vitro study, human dentin block samples were brushed twice daily for 4 days, for 30 seconds each time, then immersed in a 1:3 Paste: artificial saliva slurry for an additional 30 seconds. SEM images were taken to confirm layer formation.14

After the hardness of the layers was measured (by nanoindentation as described previously) the dentin discs from all treatment groups were exposed to 1% citric acid (pH 3.8) for 2 minutes. The layer hardness was measured again, and samples were reimaged with SEM to evaluate the resistance of the occlusive layers that had formed by each toothpaste to an acid challenge.14

We see in the SEM images dentin treated with artificial saliva, Clinical Repair, and Colgate Sensitivity Relief. After 4 days of brushing with Clinical Repair, the tubules were occluded by the formation of a protective layer. After acid challenge the SEM shows that the layer formed by the NOVAMIN is still present.14

SENSODYNE Clinical Repair with NOVAMIN generates a protective mineral layer over exposed dentin to help protect from the pain of sensitive teeth.* This reparative mineral layer is resistant to everyday oral challenges.*

The same study also showed that SENSODYNE Clinical Repair forms a reparative layer that is significantly more resistant to acid challenge than certain other occluding technologies.
