Measuring the impact on patients' quality of life
To understand the impact of dentin hypersensitivity on quality of life, a team at the School of Clinical Dentistry, University of Sheffield, UK, in collaboration with Haleon, developed the Dentin Hypersensitivity Experience Questionnaire (DHEQ).9
Both qualitative and quantitative development and validation in a general population have shown that the DHEQ exhibits good psychometric properties. Its use can further the understanding of subjective impacts of dentin hypersensitivity on quality of life.9
The DHEQ explores how quality of life is affected by dentin hypersensitivity, such as its impact on patients’ daily activities or emotional wellbeing.9

This data is from a 24-week, non-comparative clinical study in healthy adults (n=75) with clinically confirmed dentin hypersensitivity (DH). Subjects brushed for 24 weeks with a non-aqueous toothpaste with 5% NOVAMIN and 1426ppm fluoride.12
The dentin hypersensitivity experience questionnaire (DHEQ) was used to assess changes in subject-perceived DH before and during treatment in addition to traditional DH pain scores. These measures are indicative of oral health-related quality of life (OHrQoL).12

**On behalf of Haleon, Ipsos MORI surveyed a sample of 5,500 online adults (18-65) in the USA. Data was weighted to the known offline population proportions for age, gender and region for the US. From this sample we identified 300 regular SENSODYNE / SENSODYNE Pronamel users, defined as those who only use SENSODYNE / SENSODYNE Pronamel, do so at least once but no more than three times a day, have been using the brand for at least six months and started doing so because they had sensitive teeth and who did not say that the statement did not apply or that had not had that problem.
