  • Product information – Otrivine Extra Dual Relief

    Otrivine Extra Dual Relief 0.5 mg/ml + 0.6 mg/ml nasal spray, solution. (0.5 mg/ml xylometazoline hydrochloride and 0.6 mg/ml ipratropium bromide).

    Indications: Symptomatic treatment of nasal congestion and rhinorrhea in connection with common colds.

    Dosage: 1 puff in each nostril, up to 3 times daily, with at least 6 hours between doses. Maximum 3 applications daily into each nostril. Do not exceed the stated dose. Not for use longer than 7 days. Geriatrics: Limited experience of use in patients above 70 years of age.

    Contraindications: Children and adolescents under 18 years. Known hypersensitivity to xylometazoline hydrochloride or ipratropium bromide or any excipients or hypersensitivity to atropine or atropine like substances. Patients with glaucoma, rhinitis sicca, atrophic rhinitis or following trans-sphenoidal hypophysectomy or surgery exposing the dura mater.

    Warnings and precautions: Use with caution in people with: hypertension, cardiovascular disease, long QT syndrome, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, prostatic hypertrophy, bladder stenosis, pheochromocytoma, on monoamine oxidase inhibitors treatment, on tri/tetra cyclic antidepressants (or have been on either within the last two weeks), on beta 2-agonist treatment, cystic fibrosis. Use with caution in patients predisposed to angle closure glaucoma, epistaxis or paralytic ileus. Immediate hypersensitivity including urticaria, angioedema and rash may occur. Caution in people sensitive to adrenergic substances, which may cause sleep disturbances, dizziness, tremor, cardiac arrythmias or elevated blood pressure. Do not use for more than 7 days. Avoid contact with eyes.

    Side effects: See SPC for full details. Very common: epistaxis. Common: dysgeusia, rhinalgia, nasal congestion, headache, nasal dryness, nasal discomfort, nausea, application site burn, dizziness, throat irritation, dry throat, dry mouth. Uncommon: insomnia, parosmia, tremor, eye irritation, dry eye, palpitations, tachycardia, nasal ulcer, sneezing, dyspepsia, fatigue, corneal oedema, cough.

    Product Information Otrivine Congestion Relief 0.1% Nasal Spray. (1 mg/ml of xylometazoline hydrochloride and 0.14 mg of xylometazoline hydrochloride).

    Indications: For the symptomatic relief of nasal congestion, perennial and allergic rhinitis (including hay fever) and sinusitis.

    Dosage: Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age: 1 spray into each nostril, up to 3 times daily as needed. Do not exceed 3 applications daily into each nostril.

    Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients. Patients following trans-sphenoidal hypophysectomy or surgery exposing the dura mater. Patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, rhinitis sicca or atrophic rhinitis, phaeochromocytoma, prostatic hypertrophy, patients on MAOI treatment or who have received them in the last two weeks. Not to be used in children aged less than 12 years.

    Warnings and precautions: Patients are advised not to take decongestants for more than seven consecutive days. Caution must be used in patients showing a strong reaction to adrenergic substances, which may cause signs of insomnia, dizziness, tremor, cardiac arrhythmias or elevated blood pressure. Caution is recommended in patients with hypertension, cardiovascular disease, hyperthyroidism or diabetes mellitus. Patients with long QT syndrome may be at increased of serious ventricular arrhythmias. This medicine contains polyoxyl hydrogenated castor oil which may cause skin reactions. If you are pregnant or taking other medicines or are under a doctor's care consult your doctor before using Otrivine.

    Product Information Otrivine Child Nasal Drops. (Xylometazoline Hydrochloride 0.05% w/v).

    Indications: For the relief of nasal congestion associated with the common cold, perennial, allergic rhinitis (including hay fever) and sinusitis.

    Dosage: Children between 6 and 12 years (all indications): 1 or 2 drops, in each nostril up to 2 times daily. Not to be used for more than 5 days without the advice of a doctor. Not more than 2 doses should be given in any 24 hours. Do not exceed the stated dose or take with any other cough and cold medicine.

    Contraindications: Known hypersensitivity to Otrivine or any of the excipients. Concomitant use of other sympathomimetic decongestants. Patients with cardiovascular disease including hypertension, diabetes mellitus, phaeochromocytoma, prostatic hypertrophy, hyperthyroidism, closed angle glaucoma or following transsphenoidal hypophysectomy or nasal surgery exposing the dura mater. Contraindicated in patients using monoamine oxidase inhibitors and beta-blockers or have inflammation of the skin and/or mucosa of the nasal vestibule. Not to be used in children under the age of 6 years.

    Warnings and precautions: Patients are advised not to take decongestants for more than five consecutive days. Caution must be used in patients showing a strong reaction to sympathomimetic agents which may cause signs of insomnia, dizziness, tremor, cardiac arrhythmias or elevated blood pressure. Caution in patients with occlusive vascular disease. Occasionally children may show restlessness, hallucinations or sleep disturbance when Otrivine is used. If this occurs Otrivine should be stopped. Contains benzalkonium chloride, may cause irritation of the nasal mucosa. Expectant mothers should consult their doctors before using Otrivine for themselves.
