An Expert’s Opinion – Maggie Moon

Supporting Cognitive Health Starts with the Right Nutrients

Optimal cognitive function and memory not only contributes to independence, self-identity and relationships, but also elevates a general sense of well-being. This makes cognitive health key to thriving as we age.

Watch as Maggie Moon, a registered dietitian and specialist in brain health, discusses how food alone may not be enough to help older adults meet all their nutritional needs. That’s why the micronutrients found in supplements like Centrum Silver play an important role in bridging that gap.

Centrum Silver Supports Cognitive Health

Can nutrition play a role in supporting memory with age?

Micronutrients play a vital role in multiple biochemical processes that can affect brain function and how we age, however it’s estimated that more than 2 billion people worldwide are insufficient in key vitamins and minerals.9 This concern is magnified in older populations, as diminished gastric acid production, medication use and chronic conditions can all affect micronutrient absorption.2

That’s why the micronutrients found in supplements like Centrum Silver can help bridge that gap by supporting optimal nutrient intake and promoting cognitive well-being. Understanding how we can support cognitive health is key to promoting the overall wellness of our aging population.

Centrum Silver is Clinically Proven to Support Memory in Older Adults

Three large-scale, long-term clinical trials with over 5,000 participants showed daily use of Centrum Silver tablets support cognitive aging in older adults compared to placebo. ⧺1,3

  • The COSMOS-Mind study showed that daily intake of Centrum Silver over 3 years, as compared to placebo, significantly improved performance on global cognitive function, memory and executive function tests in older adults. It was estimated that daily use may slow cognitive aging by up to 60%.
  • The COSMOS-Web study demonstrated that daily use of Centrum Silver, as compared to placebo, significantly improved performance on memory tests in older adults with benefits seen in just one year. The difference in performance between Centrum Silver and placebo was estimated to reflect a difference of 3.1 years of age-related change.††
  • The COSMOS-Clinic study – demonstrated that daily use of Centrum Silver over 2 years led to a statistically significant favorable change in performance on memory tests as compared to placebo.
  • The COSMOS-Clinic Meta-analysis - Analyzed data of over 5,000 non-overlapping participants and showed that daily use of Centrum silver led to a significantly more favorable change in memory and global cognitive function among older adults than placebo.

The combined analysis of 3 studies establish that daily use of Centrum Silver can benefit memory.

†Predicted model used to estimate age-related cognitive decline within the study with observed treatment-related protection against cognitive ageing of 1.8 years in 3 years.

†† Estimated via a cross-sectional regression analysis between age and ModRey Immediate Recall test wherein the expected memory decline for each year of ageing was derived from the 3-year COSMOS-Web randomized controlled trial, which randomly assigned participants to either a daily Centrum Silver supplement or placebo for the duration of the study.
