Sensodyne Dentin Hypersensitivity Diagnosis Protocol for Dental Professionals

This Sensodyne handout provides dental professionals with a dentin hypersensitivity (sensitive teeth) diagnosis protocol, covering:

Patient history: questions about ongoing sensitivity, sensitivity toothpaste use, pain with hot or cold foods and drinks, and areas avoided during brushing.
Clinical assessment: checks to make during the visit, including response to the air/water syringe, need for a topical anesthetic, tactile or chemical sensitivity, other possible causes of sensitivity, and planned whitening treatment.
Product recommendations:
- Sensodyne Clinical Repair: recommended for patients with sensitivity, to be used twice daily.
- Sensodyne Clinical White: recommended for patients with sensitivity who are undergoing or planning a whitening treatment, to be used for 2 weeks before, during and after treatment to help care for sensitive teeth.
Follow-up: at the next visit, ask patients about their experience with Sensodyne and reinforce twice-daily use.
