With changes in GI motility and delayed gastric emptying associated with GLP-1 use, your GLP-1 patients may be at increased risk of regurgitation of stomach contents and symptoms of heartburn.2,3

Patients with heartburn related to GLP-1s can get help from the fast-acting science of TUMS to manage their symptoms.

The science behind TUMS

Calcium carbonate eases heartburn symptoms by neutralizing the hydrochloric acid (HCl) secreted in the stomach and inhibiting the proteolytic enzyme pepsin through increased stomach pH.4

The negative part of the molecule (the carbonate anion) rapidly binds H+ to raise the pH, making the environment less acidic. The positive part of the molecule (the calcium ion) can stimulate peristalsis of the esophagus, helping to move acid into the stomach.4 Inactivating pepsin through increased stomach pH also helps to reduce its disruptive activity at the esophageal mucosal barrier.4
