Program description
Roughly one-third of the world’s population experience some form of chronic musculoskeletal pain, and patients commonly use and seek advice from health care professionals on OTC pain management.
This course aims to provide health care professionals with the knowledge and confidence to provide evidence-based recommendations for OTC musculoskeletal pain management and empower them to optimize pain relief, improve patient safety, and support informed self-care decisions.
This course will review:
- Common OTC treatments for musculoskeletal pain
- OTC analgesic options based on patient-specific factors
- Key patient counseling points on OTC analgesic use

Jessica Geiger, PharmD, MS
A passionate advocate for appropriate pain management, this expert brings 15 years of experience in pain management, palliative care, and hospice. With a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Findlay and a Master of Science from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, their career has been rooted in advancing care for patients in pain. They are dedicated to educating others on topics such as effective communication, navigating difficult conversations, and promoting safe prescribing practices.
Katie Meyer PharmD, BCPS, BCPG
Dr. Meyer serves as the Vice President of Education at the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), where she leads the development of continuing education programs for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians across all practice settings. She also oversees the APhA Education Executive Fellowship. A graduate of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, she earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2008 and holds board certifications in both pharmacotherapy and geriatric pharmacy. Her diverse career spans community practice, acute care, and consulting for geriatric populations, reflecting her commitment to advancing pharmacy education and patient care.
