Clinical study: Investigating The Efficacy Of A Toothpaste In Improving Gum Health

Clinical summary

A randomized, examiner-blind study of 130 adults over 3 weeks

A short-term clinical study evaluated parodontax Active Gum Repair Breath Freshener, an anhydrous toothpaste containing 0.454% stannous fluoride, compared with a sodium monofluorophosphate control toothpaste. The study investigated whether twice-daily use could improve gingival health and plaque control within 2-3 weeks.

  • Gingivitis: After 2 weeks, the 0.454% stannous fluoride toothpaste produced a 32.7% reduction in Bleeding Index and a 33.0% reduction in the number of bleeding sites compared with the control.
  • Gum health and plaque scores: At Weeks 2 and 3, the test toothpaste showed statistically significantly lower Bleeding Index, bleeding sites, Modified Gingival Index and interproximal Plaque Index scores than the control group (p<0.0001).
  • Safety: All reported treatment-emergent adverse events were mild and resolved by study end; no serious adverse events were reported.
