Meet the speakers
Dr Zoran Bahtijarević
Dr Zoran Bahtijarević is the Chief Medical Officer and Chief of the Medical & Anti-Doping Unit at the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), where he also served as Member of the UEFA Medical Committee (2015-2023), 3rd Vice-President (2018-2020), Deputy Chairman (2020-2023), Chair of the UEFA Protocol Advisory Panel (2020-2023) and UEFA Chief Medical Advisor (2020-2022).
Dr Bahtijarević has held prominent roles in global medical organisations, including President of the Croatian Society of Pediatric Surgery, the WOFAPS (World Federation of Associations of Pediatric Surgeons) Foundation and is currently the Team Doctor for the Croatian National Football Team.
Dr Zoran Bahtijarević will discuss real-world examples of analgesic use and the diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries in professional adult athletes.
Prof Michael Heinrich
Prof Michael Heinrich teaches undergraduate and postgraduate aspects of medicinal plant and natural product research at UCL, with a focus on practical applications related to community pharmacy practices and patients’ use of herbal medicinal products. He was also the head of the Biodiversity and Medicines research cluster from 2012 to 2018 and has been the co-chair of the UCL Research Ethics Committee since 2017.
He is Editor in Chief of Frontiers in Ethnopharmacology and has held a number of honorary/visiting academic roles, publishing more than 800 scientific papers, with his research covering anthropology, ethnobotany, ethnopharmacology, pharmacy and public health, with a focus on the use of plant-derived products.
Prof Michael Heinrich will discuss how physical therapy and non-pharmacological approaches can optimise care outcomes in a tailored multimodal approach alongside analgesics.
