Early Orthodontic Intervention with Clear Aligners: When, Why, and How Does It Work?
Interceptive orthodontic treatment during the mixed dentition offers an opportunity to address developing dental and skeletal problems before they become more complex. Yet, the key question is not simply “Can we treat early?” but “Should we?” Current evidence indicates that early intervention does not consistently provide superior long-term outcomes compared with treatment initiated later, and therefore should be reserved for conditions in which early treatment offers a specific clinical advantage.
The growing use of clear aligners has introduced new possibilities for interceptive treatment, particularly in arch development, anterior crossbite correction, and space management. This presentation will discuss when early intervention is indicated, why clear aligners may be considered, and how they can be effectively incorporated into interceptive orthodontic treatment, with comparisons to conventional fixed appliances.
