  • 2. What data is used to calculate the Cold & Flu tracker?

    The tool uses Flu Activity Notification (FAN)* data, to show cold and flu incidence levels for the UK, providing a scale from Very Low to Very High.

    It's a weekly index (refreshed every Sunday) and provides the actual view for the current week and +4 weeks forecast based on historical data.

    *FAN data provides the incidence of cold and flu symptoms i.e. generic upper respiratory infection covering influenza-like illness, fever, cough, sore throat.
