Voltaren Pain Relief Gel
Voltaren Pain Relief Gel not only relieves pain, but reduces inflammation1–3
Voltaren Pain Relief Gel contains the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), diclofenac, that provides pain relief from musculoskeletal inflammatory conditions including:4
- acute soft tissue injuries including sprains, strains and sports injuries
- localised forms of soft tissue rheumatism such as tendinitis and bursitis
- mild osteoarthritis of the knees and fingers
A formulation designed for effective skin penetrations5-7
After topical application, diclofenac penetrates through the skin, reaching underlying tissue to relieve pain and reduce inflammation.6,7
When it comes to topical NSAIDs, formulation can be more important than concentration.8 The aqueous-alcoholic gel formulation of Voltaren Pain Relief Gel enables better absorption of the active ingredient, diclofenac, compared to lipid-based gels.5

Supported by treatment guidelines
Guidelines support the use of topical NSAIDs1
Guidelines support the use of topical NSAIDs, such as Voltaren Pain Relief Gel, as an effective treatment for soft tissue injuries and mild osteoarthritis of the knee and hand.12-14
To improve pain, inflammation and recovery after sprains and strains, guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends using topical NSAIDs or paracetamol as initial analgesics for soft-tissue injuries.13
Patients should also be advised not to apply heat to the injury during the first 72 hours.13
NICE Guidelines also recommend to consider topical NSAIDs for pain relief in addition to core treatments for people with knee or hand osteoarthritis and to consider topical NSAIDs and/or paracetamol ahead of oral NSAIDs, COX-2 inhibitors or opioids.14
