GSK Consumer Healthcare is now Haleon
We are happy to announce our official demerger from GSK (formerly GlaxoSmithKline) and transformation into Haleon—a new company single-mindedly focused on delivering better everyday health with humanity.
The demerger process provided a unique opportunity for us to not only reflect proudly on our heritage, but also to focus on redefining what it means to be a world-leading, standalone consumer health company.
Our business is built on an exceptional portfolio of trusted brands, powered by leading consumer healthcare-focused scientific capabilities, and strengthened by the in-house expertise and proprietary insights tools that help us to stay at the forefront of consumer health trends and behaviors.
But we also have a restless desire to do and be more.
As we enter our exciting new chapter as Haleon HealthPartner, we’re focused on creating initiatives that raise the bar in our support of health professionals, patients, and everyday health.
Our key goals and initiatives
As a health professional, your ability to see the person beyond the patient and to treat illnesses within the context of everyday lives makes you an extraordinary leader from whom we can learn a great deal. At Haleon HealthPartner, we understand the importance of closely partnering with you to co-create content that reflects your unique perspectives. Collaborating with you to better serve patients is our top priority.
In recent conversations, health professionals have told us that a lack of education focused on patient communication, behavior change, and emerging technologies, as well as a lack of time and recognition from peers, policymakers, and even patients can sometimes make the delivery of better everyday health with humanity a challenge.
Removing those challenges is important to us at Haleon HealthPartner. Here, in our community, you will find professional education resources, practical tools and the latest updates on new programs and offerings for healthcare professions. Read below for more information on a few of our latest efforts.
Standing with Pharmacists in the Age of Self-Care
In 2021, we made a 3-year commitment to support pharmacists in their increasingly challenging role in the primary care ecosystem – a world where there is a much greater focus on everyday health and self-care. This program advocates for pharmacy policy and regulation change, and also offers a range of support, training, and tools.
Supporting the Mental & Emotional Health of Dental Health Professionals
We teamed up with Dr. Koula Asimakopoulou of Kings College London to create a series of videos that help dental professionals understand and manage their emotions to make the right choices for their clinic, staff and patients in our COVID-19 era.
Taking care of our everyday health should be easier. Despite significant improvements in medicine, data and technology, better everyday health remains elusive for far too many people.
At Haleon HealthPartner, we want to change that. We believe in increasing the knowledge, skills and confidence people have in managing their own health, and we believe in the value of community-based care.
Whether it’s through manufacturing effective products, researching the drivers of healthcare inequity, supporting patient access, or improving health literacy, we are fully committed to helping more patients and empowering more people to take control of their health.
By 2025, we aim to help 50 million people per year gain access to opportunities for better everyday health—in the US and around the world. See below for some of our upcoming initiatives aimed at accomplishing this goal.
Coming Soon: The Health Inclusivity Index Launch
In September 2022, Haleon will publish the world’s first Health Inclusivity Index in partnership with The Economist’s Intelligence Unit and University College of London.
This ongoing research effort will focus on the core drivers of health and health inequality, and will tap into a global panel of experts to help highlight gaps in health inclusivity and accessibility around the world.
Smile Train Partnership
Haleon is proud to partner with Smile Train, a world-leading charity that empowers health professionals to provide free, life-changing surgery and comprehensive care to children with cleft lip and palate in more than 90 countries.
As a committed partner of Smile Train, Haleon provides valuable funding, support, and expertise to help more affected children lead full and productive lives, and helps to increase awareness and education about cleft lips and cleft palates.
You can expect continuous improvement from us, and our hope is that our trusted science and deep human understanding will drive innovations in everyday health for decades to come.
We’re also aware that the health of people and the planet are inextricably linked, so playing a positive role in tackling environmental issues is also central to our purpose in delivering better everyday health. When it comes to our sustainability initiatives, we have a dual focus: continuing to mitigate the environmental impact of our operations, and focusing on positive impacts and new opportunities.
As a result of our efforts, we have reduced carbon usage by installing renewable electricity generation at 12 out of our 24 manufacturing sites, and 100% of the electricity we use now comes from renewable sources. We are also focused on sustainably sourced ingredients, so 80% of glycerin, our palm oil derivative, is RSPO-certified. In addition, all our sites are Zero Waste to Landfill-certified and are actively improving waste circularity.
Producing Sustainable Oral Health Products
In 2021, we launched 40 million recycle-ready toothpaste tubes in Europe as part of our ambition to make over one billion toothpaste tubes recyclable by 2025. Plastic is another big focus for us, and we have just launched our first ever plastic-free toothbrush packet and a sustainably sourced bamboo toothbrush, with a plastic-free handle and bristles from renewable castor oil.
The Clean Breathing Institute
In 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that 99% of the world’s population lived in places where the WHO air quality guidelines levels were not being met. To help reduce the negative impact of this widespread air pollution, we set up a collaborative and science-led initiative called The Clean Breathing Institute (TCBI). TCBI’s mission is to empower HCPs to help their patients breathe better by providing high-quality educational tools and resources, developed in partnership with category thought leaders, to assist patients who are suffering from the harmful effects of air pollution.
