Low Back Pain: Trends, Impact and Management by Dr. Magdalena Kocot-Kepska
Low back pain is a leading cause of disability worldwide. Evidence-based management focuses on a holistic, biopsychosocial approach to low back pain. This section will focus on addressing common misconceptions, promoting patient self-management, and reinforcing the role of non-pharmacological and pharmacological interventions in line with international best practices. It will also explore emerging trends in low back pain management, including digital and multidisciplinary care models.

Meet the speakers
Professor Roger Knaggs
Professor Roger Knaggs is a leading UK expert in pain management, serving as Professor of Pain Management at the University of Nottingham and specialist pharmacist with Primary Integrated Community Services. As the first pharmacist to become President of the British Pain Society, he has significantly shaped national pain policy, education, and professional standards. He is on Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs and leadership within the UK Clinical Pharmacy Association Pain Management Group, alongside active public and professional engagement through media and platforms such as ePAIN.
Professor Roger Knaggs will discuss the clinical assessment and diagnosis of low back pain and the identification of key red and yellow flags.
Dr. Magdalena Kocot Kępska
Dr. Magdalena Kocot Kępska is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Pain Research and Treatment, Jagiellonian University in Kraków, and a specialist in anesthesiology and intensive therapy. She serves as President of the Polish Association for the Study of Pain and previously sat on the EFIC Executive Board (2017–2023). With over 200 scientific publications, she also co authors Polish pain textbooks and national treatment guidelines.
